Ballerina Final Trailer Teases Revenge, Ruska Roma-Style

The Ana de Armas–led John Wick spin-off From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is now just three weeks away from its long-awaited theatrical release, and Lionsgate has decided to go out with a bang by releasing one final trailer that’s every bit as stylish, bombastic, and hyperviolent as you’d hope.

Set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina finds Keanu Reeves’ eponymous protagonist “declared excommunicado” by the High Table for his murder of crime lord Santino D’Antonio on Continental Hotel grounds, while also on the run from the enormous bounty they’ve placed on his head. The film primarily follows a young ballerina and the female recruits of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate’s school for ballerina-assassins, which is run by the elusive and hard-as-nails Director, played by Anjelica Huston.

The eponymous Ballerina is Eve Macarro, played by Ana de Armas. A quick scene in Parabellum introduced a young ballerina practicing on the Continental stage, who was played by actress Unity Phelan, and it’s her character that’s now center stage in Ballerina. Of course, several other familiar faces are back for this new spin-off installment, with Huston and Ian McShane reprising their roles as the Director and Winston from previous films.

Fans may also note the inclusion of Lance Reddick as Charon, the Continental’s perpetually chipper concierge, in the new trailer. Sadly, Reddick passed away in March 2023 from an inoperable brain tumor, so this marks his final on-screen performance. Other new additions to the John Wick world include Gabriel Byrne as the Chancellor, the film’s primary antagonist and the man responsible for turning an entire rural town against Eve and her former squad; Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Eve’s mentor Nogi; and Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine. In lesser-seen roles, the film also stars Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Castañeda, though their parts in the story are as yet still a mystery.

Plot Synopsis: Revenge with Grace, Courtesy of de Armas

The first trailer for Ballerina dropped in September 2024, and it placed a lot of emphasis on Eve’s back-story and her character development — how she was orphaned as a young child and joined the Ruska Roma in hopes of exacting revenge on her father’s killers. That first look hinted at a more intimate tale that would at least at first focus on Eve’s quest for vengeance and redemption.

However, by contrast, the second trailer, which Lionsgate released in March 2025, delivered more of what fans were looking for. Although it still primarily focused on Eve’s journey and the overall mission of her and her former classmates, it did give viewers a much closer look at John Wick himself, as the trailer cut to a dimly lit and snowy shot of the two assassins meeting in some tense and bloody confrontation. The implication is that there will be ample screen time for Keanu Reeves, as Wick will be playing a substantial supporting role to de Armas in this new spin-off, which is set to expand on the overall world of the series in fascinating ways.

The new trailer, which was also shared on Wednesday, March 27, 2025, has a different, more focused energy than its predecessor. It opens with the point-of-view shot of Eve as Wick aims his pistol directly at her, before flashing to a montage of new and previously seen footage from the film, with Ana de Armas demonstrating that she’s up to the physical and choreographic demands of being in the new John Wick spin-off.

Shot almost entirely in shaky-cam, the new trailer shows her in ferocious hand-to-hand combat against an array of opponents, or casually twirling her gun around between brutal gunfights, displaying a surprisingly violent yet balletic grace that fans will recognize from Reeves’ action performances in the John Wick series. One brief line of dialogue, however, makes Eve’s motivations clear, as de Armas utters the chilling and definitive phrase: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.”

Dialogue like this cements not just Eve’s intentions in Ballerina but the whole franchise’s no-nonsense attitude when it comes to revenge, survival, and determination. This is de Armas’ film first and foremost, but the presence of John Wick is certainly not unwelcome, with the film using Reeves’ inclusion to potentially deepen and broaden the world of Ballerina as an addition to the overall saga.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will open in theaters on June 6, 2025, and if the final trailer is anything to go by, it should be as bloody, kinetic, action-packed, and surprisingly emotional as every other installment in the franchise has been over the years. If this final look is any indication, Ana de Armas is more than ready to step into the boots of the John Wick universe’s next leading lady.
