Faith Over Fame? Bieber’s Social Posts Spark Speculation
Justin Bieber has found a way to keep his name in the headlines by posting a video on Instagram, which was perceived as a possible “subliminal message about his stance on recreational drug use.” On Sunday, the 31-year-old pop icon reposted a video of a 2013 episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life, where American rapper DMX and American television and motivational speaker Iyanla Vanzant were having a talk show.
In the video, Iyanla Vanzant asks DMX about his desire to live soberly. The blunt rapper quips back, “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?” when she asked him, “You want to be a clear pure vessel for the voice of God?” To which the rapper retorted, “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God.”
Justin Bieber has chosen not to caption the post on Instagram. The social media video was instead reposted from the Instagram account of a Los Angeles-based cannabis company known as Gassy. Although Bieber did not attempt to explain the post, many media outlets and fans of his page started to see the rapper’s post as a direct criticism of drugs or possibly other substances. Some had differing views, and others stated that it was not a case of criticism, but rather a submission about Justin Bieber’s views on marijuana.
Comments like “Rap God” and “Iyanla Vanzant prepared this episode for Justin Bieber” made their way onto the screen when he posted the video. Others have not failed to notice that it was a means of starting a healthy conversation on individual liberty, religious beliefs, and sobriety. This hasn’t been entirely off from what Bieber has been vocal about for years. For a while now, he has been more open about his faith and how he interacts with God. In the past, he has written about his love for God and Churchome, which is a spiritual community led by Churchome pastor Judah Smith.
Justin Bieber under Different Light, Legal Recreational Drug, and a New Album
As noted earlier, this post has also taken many by surprise as it has presented Bieber’s more liberal side regarding recreational marijuana. He had been seen in pictures with bongs and smoke coming from his mouth, though it was no surprise to his fans; his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, has done the same. Since marijuana is a legal recreational drug in California, where Bieber is located with his wife and baby son, Hailey Bieber and Jack Bieber, respectively.
Despite the social media uproar, Bieber’s representative in a January email denied rumors that had surfaced earlier this year. “The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is not true,” the rep stated in the email obtained by TMZ in February. “He is in one of the best places in his life,” the rep added, “being a dad and making music.”
The rep, according to the publication, further hinted that the year 2023 was a new year for Justin Bieber and that he had seen to the separation of all longstanding friendships and business partnerships that have lasted for over a decade.
The rep claimed that the singer had “broken up” with a number of those in the past year as a way to bring about change. It is also being linked to the fact that in a major career shift, he has released a new album recently on July 11th, 2023, which is his 7th Studio album by the name of Swag, and was met with a positive reception. The album, which tackles topics of personal change, love for Hailey, and his time as a father, also features Comedy Interludes where social media sensation Druski appears on the songs to get Bieber into his “real life therapy sessions.” It was clear from the songs that, in between all the growth, family, and love, there was a more transparent and human side of Justin Bieber.
Public perceptions aside, Justin Bieber does not currently have any tours scheduled on his “swag” world tour. No sources have been contacted on any plan as of the writing of this piece. As it has been known that Bieber did not come back from his last world tour, Justice, because of his health. We can, however, expect him on tour soon.
The Justice World tour had stopped midway in 2022. There was a cancellation because Bieber’s stomach was giving him health issues, as confirmed by his doctor and reps. But fans aren’t holding their breath just yet. Reports also claim that Bieber has started to see rumors of a potential Australian tour, with the help of some other popular singers. In any case, Bieber’s representative did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone when asked. Frontier Touring said, “We have no information on this at this time.”
A full return to music and touring, alongside a healthy married life with Hailey and a family with their new born son would not be off limits as a new Justin Bieber after a year of being with him “alone” and is the new focus and clarity now getting away from the mundane friendships and business ties that no longer satisfied him.
