Kirk and Pike Share Command in Strange New Worlds S3

The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be released on Paramount+ on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Episodes for the new season will arrive weekly every Thursday until September 11, 2025.

Fans got a glimpse of what Season 3 will entail with a short teaser in April this year. The trailer is official confirmation of the premiere date that was announced earlier and gives fans their first look at what to expect when the new season drops.

At the end of the second season, the Enterprise and her crew are still facing the Gorn, so it will be a big part of the upcoming season. However, after Gorn’s storyline ends, a new antagonist will challenge the crew’s convictions, mettle, and endurance.

Season 3 will be an expansion on the current formula. A large portion of the season will still be episodic. Fans will also see that some Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episodes have a variety of different genres outside of traditional Trek stories. There will be episodes about faith, duty, love, humor, and mystery, which is a big departure from other Star Trek series.

Paramount+ also teased that the new episodes will have a wider genre-bending approach, unlike previous Star Trek series. More than new faces, Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will also feature the return of several main cast members and familiar faces from previous seasons reprising their roles.

One notable new addition to the cast is Cillian O’Sullivan, who will play the role of Dr. Roger Korby, a character from the original Star Trek series played by Michael Strong in the 1960s. As per canon, Korby is an archaeologist with a specialization in medical archaeology and is Chapel’s long-lost fiancé. His return, which will happen in an episode of the third season, will cause some tension since Chapel is now in a relationship with Spock.

Season 3 will also feature guest stars Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt. The April teaser confirmed this, too. It was very clear that it would be a combination of serious, full-length adventures and lighter episodes with more comedic elements. More than new faces, Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will also feature the return of several main cast members and familiar faces from previous seasons reprising their roles.

The new trailer also emphasized a more diverse approach in tonality, character, and style. The crew of the Enterprise having fun on the bridge in a moment of friendship and familiarity, the characters navigating their complicated romantic entanglements, and a scene of a science experiment gone awry, hint at a series of episodes that will not only entertain but also tug at the viewers’ heartstrings.

A highly anticipated event will also be included in Season 3 and teased in the new trailer. Star Trek fans were all smiles seeing James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) in the pilot seat in one of the trailer scenes. While the new trailer did not confirm what Kirk had to do with the Gorn situation, it will not be a secret for long as Season 3 premieres in just under a year and a half. The preview showed Pike passing on the proverbial torch of a Starfleet leader to Kirk when he said, “The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with.”

Finally, the new trailer ends on a bit of a comedic note for the series. Although Star Trek is far from a comedy series, the perfect comedic timing between a Vulcan character played by Patton Oswalt and Spock reminded viewers that the series still has room for moments like these.
